Maurice Ravel: Pavane pour une infante défunte
Manuel Ponce: Concierto del Sur
Tōru Takemitsu: Spectral Canticle
Edward Elgar: In the South (Alassio) op. 50
Patrik Kleemola gives recitals around Europe and is here heard performing Mexican and Japanese music for guitar. Manuel Ponce’s Concierto del Sur, one of his most important works, transports the listener to the warmth of southern sunshine. The works of Tōru Takemitsu are like Japanese gardens, delightful in their serenity and beauty. The guitar works on the programme are complemented by Ravel’s melancholy Pavane, one of his most popular works, and Elgar’s In the South, which he wrote on a family holiday in Alassio in Ita-ly. This is also the opening concert of the Turku Guitar Festival.
